Are We Lying To Each Other As Comfort?

“God must have something better for you.”

How many times have you heard that statement?

It might be true. Heck, it probably IS true. But so what? How does that help? What do you actually do after devastating disappointment?

We live in a world where Christians credit misfortune as God’s sovereign hand. If you didn’t get the house or the job that you wanted, God must have a better one waiting for you.

But does He? And how long should you wait for it before getting back into the grind?

One of the biggest mistakes people make is waiting for God and doing nothing in the meantime. Those in between times are sacred opportunities to pursue passions, hone skills, study deeper levels, and take risks.

Maybe God has a spouse, job, ministry, house, provision waiting for you. But there are two thoughts I suggest you consider:

1. It’s impossible to steer a motionless ship

More times than not, I’ve seen people sitting still, waiting for purpose, skill, and favor to be handed to them. They missed the part that the Holy Spirit GUIDES us into all truth. A guide cannot show you anything if you’re not walking.

2. You may have missed the process of acquisition

If I send you a package via UPS that requires a signature of receipt, but you don’t answer the door, the UPS driver is obligated to take the package back to a holding facility. You have been given a gift, but you don’t possess it. There’s often a process to possession that requires action on your part. Read, pray, and seek counsel about what that missing x process might look like.

Those two thoughts are worth serious consideration. One or both may apply.
